Today after a little hike along the Poudre River, I took my 11 year old grandson to lunch at Vern’s. We sat at a front booth to enjoy the mountain view and were greeted by a friendly waitperson (we needed extra time to order but she came back to check in with us).
My grandson loved his grilled cheese on Texas toast with a side of “the biggest frenchfries I’ve ever seen”, he said. My housemate muisli with noosa yogurt, blueberries, blackberries and fresh strawberries was wonderful (a hefty serving).
Finally the cinnamon roll arrived. It was HUGE! (And delicious!)
Vern’s isn’t very far from our ranch, but we’ve never been there before. One reason might be because it’s a little uncomfortable for a racially blended family like mine to go outside of town where you’re unsure how people will treat you.
    We were ok at Vern’s.

I reviewed this I believe on Yelp or elsewhere about year ago,as well as communicated with the new owners via their FB page. I have lived in Fort Collins for 10 years- and now and again have enjoyed going to Verns. I decided I would go again about a year ago when they were featured on the front of the Dining Out magazine. New owners must have paid the mag to do a review on them and put them on the cover! I say that because if the magazine publishers had gone and ate there before doing that – they would have realized it was horrible in a number of ways food-wise since the new owners took over! Just like another reviewer on here stated as such too. Nothing has been the same since the new owners took over! The fact they chose to put in a outdoor patio area- hello- need more servers when you put more seating in a restaurant! Yep- the food was not cooked properly, had to send back, order was done wrong, and it took forever to get served! I noticed a number of the reviews on this site are from a few years ago. It was great then- no more ! haven’t been back since, and will not go back , nor take guests from out of town there -as I have done as such in the past. I communicated with the new owners via FB about my disappointment shortly after going there my last time- and the response was not conclusive at all. They basically admitted to having growing pains. Probably still having them! So I warn you- don’t waste you time . Location is wonderful- always has been- that is about it though! Go elsewhere, anywhere but Verns! Too bad it seems to have been sold to someone not in the family that started it- that was a mistake!

I have lived in the area all my life and many a memory was made at Verns, so . I took my Granddaughter on a trip to Watson and we decided to go to Verns for lunch… HUGE HORRIBLE MISTAKE !!!!! My GOD things have changed… NOT ONE SMILE…. NOT ONE GREETING … NOT ONE THANK YOU >>> Kraughtburgers are AWFUL full of bread and hardly any insides we threw them away … CINAMON ROLLS we’re gross they went in the trash too … Thick rolls of bread and not good bread either … ***AWFUL *** How sad that a landmark like Verns has fallen to such disappointment … I spent my last twenty dollars at Verns … Two people did not know how to even run the cash registar … We had the worst experience in diner history today at Verns … No history is worth feeling this bad from the food to the customer service VERNS earned a big fat FAIL ***

Ok, so when you walk into Vern’s Place, you are greeted by a giant wooden bear! This place is very western/country but I personally love the atmosphere. The breakfast is fantastic, and if you like Cinnamon rolls you HAVE to try theirs, they are as big as your head!

This place is an old school country kinda place. I’ve only had breakfast here but the food is great and the portions are very generous. Bring it on!
